Log Home Restoration in Moran, WY: 4 Jobs, Honest Prices

Log home restoration in Moran means working at the edge of Grand Teton National Park, up the Buffalo Valley and out toward Togwotee. Snow comes early, stays late and piles deep, and the buildings out here are often lodges, guest cabins and ranch structures rather than a single house.

Log Care assesses Moran properties on site at no charge. We have worked Teton County since 2008, and we plan this end of the valley first in the season because it is the first to close.

What Moran does to a log home

Deep snow and long snow contact

Moran gets buried. Where snow banks against a wall it keeps the bottom courses wet for months, and wet logs near freezing are exactly where decay starts. Sill logs and the bottom two courses get probed first out here.

The shortest working season we have

Blasting, staining and chinking all need temperature and dry weather, and the Buffalo Valley window closes before Jackson does. Moran projects get scheduled early or they wait a year.

Multiple buildings, one mobilization

Guest cabins, a shop, a barn and a main house are one trip if they are planned together and four trips if they are not. Bundling the whole property into one scope is where owners out here save real money.

Wildlife and weather damage

Bear and elk damage, wind-thrown limbs and ice dams show up more often here than in town. All of it lands as log repair, and all of it is cheaper caught early.

The four jobs a Moran log home needs

Media blasting · $3–$6 per sq ft

Strips failed stain, paint, mildew and gray UV-damaged fiber back to bare, bondable wood using recycled crushed glass, corn cob or walnut shell. New finish will not bond to gray fiber. Log home media blasting.

Log rot repair · $250 to $5,500

Priced by method, decided by a probe: borate treatment, epoxy consolidation, a Dutchman patch, half-log facing or a full log. Water is almost always the cause, so we fix the water too. Log home repair.

Staining and sealing · $1.40–$10 per sq ft

A breathable, penetrating stain goes on bare, sound wood within days of the blast, before UV can gray it again. Cost tracks prep, not paint. Log home staining.

Chinking and caulking · $12–$22 per linear ft

Failed material removed, joint prepped, backer rod installed, new chinking applied over a finished surface so it bonds. Done right it lasts twenty years or more. Chinking and caulking.

We also handle thermal imaging, log carpentry, house painting, pressure washing and window washing. Everything is on the services page.

Moran and the towns around it

Moran sits inside our Jackson Hole service area, along with Kelly, Jackson, Dubois and Wilson. We also work Teton Valley and Star Valley. Every town is listed on the service areas page.

Log home restoration questions from Moran owners

How much does log home restoration cost in Moran?

Media blasting runs $3 to $6 per square foot of log surface, staining $1.40 to $10 per square foot depending on prep, a full re-chink $12 to $22 per linear foot, and rot repair from a $250 patch to $5,500 for a jacked sill log. Most whole-house projects land between $15,000 and $60,000. See log home restoration cost.

I have several buildings. Can they be done together?

Yes, and they should be. Access and mobilization are a real cost at this end of the valley. One scope covering the main house, guest cabins and outbuildings is meaningfully cheaper than four separate visits, and it keeps every building on the same maintenance clock.

When do you schedule Moran work?

Early. The Buffalo Valley opens later and closes sooner than the rest of Teton County. Booking an assessment over the winter is what gets a Moran property into the season instead of onto next year’s list.

How often should a Moran log home be restained?

South and west walls every three to five years, north and east walls every five to eight. The quickest test is whether water still beads on the wall — when it soaks in, the repellent is spent. Blasting back to bare wood is typically needed every seven to ten years.
