The short answer

Where does Log Care provide log home restoration?

Log home restoration Jackson Hole homeowners rely on, and the same crew across the region: Teton County, Wyoming (Jackson, Teton Village, Wilson, Kelly, Moran, Alta, Hoback, Rafter J Ranch, South Park), Teton County, Idaho (Driggs, Victor, Tetonia), and Star Valley, Wyoming (Afton, Alpine, Thayne, Etna, Bedford, Grover, Freedom, Star Valley Ranch) — plus Dubois, Bondurant, Pinedale, Cora, Hoback Ranches, Island Park and Swan Valley. Free on-site assessments throughout. Elevation and exposure drive the maintenance interval here far harder than they do at lower altitude — the USDA Forest Products Laboratory Wood Handbook and the NAHB Log & Timber Homes Council both cover why.

Jackson Hole is our busiest market and Teton Valley is home, so log home restoration Jackson Hole projects and Idaho-side projects run off the same schedule. That is one working radius, not a marketing map. Everything on this page is inside roughly two hours of the shop, which is what lets us bring a crew back the same season rather than the next one.

Local knowledge

What actually changes from one town to the next

Two log homes twenty minutes apart can be on completely different maintenance schedules. Elevation, exposure, snow duration and tree cover do more to set the interval than the age of the house does.

  1. Elevation and UV

Alta, Teton Village and the benches above Jackson sit meaningfully higher than the valley floor, and UV intensity climbs with altitude. A finish that gives six years in Etna can give four at 7,000 feet on a south wall.

  2. How long snow stays against the wall

Star Valley and the Idaho side hold snow against the lower courses longer than the wind-scoured benches. Sill logs and first courses in Thayne, Bedford and Tetonia are the ones we probe first.

  3. Wind exposure

Wind-driven rain and snow reach walls that a sheltered lot never exposes. Open ground in Kelly, Moran and the flats near Driggs takes weather on the west and south elevations that a treed lot in Wilson does not.

  4. Tree cover and drying time

A north wall in heavy timber can stay damp for weeks after the rest of the house is dry. Wooded lots around Wilson, Hoback and Swan Valley see more mildew and tannin staining, and need different prep before a finish goes on.

  5. Access and the working season

Moran, Dubois, Bondurant and Hoback Ranches have shorter reliable windows and longer drives. Those projects get scheduled earlier in the season, which is the practical reason to book an assessment in winter rather than in June.

  6. What the neighbors already learned

We have worked the same roads for years. When we look at your house we are usually comparing it to a dozen others within a mile that we have already restored — including which stain systems held up and which did not.

None of this is theory. It is the difference between quoting a maintenance coat and quoting a full strip, and it is why we will not price a log home over the phone. A house in Victor and a house in Teton Village can be the same age, built by the same outfit, finished with the same product — and be five years apart in what they need next.

It is also the reason we keep the crew local rather than subcontracting out. A crew that works these roads every season already knows which elevations fail first on which side of the valley, which stain systems have held up at altitude, and which lots stay wet into July. That knowledge does not travel in from out of state with a truck.

Questions we get asked

Service area questions

What areas does Log Care serve?

Teton County Wyoming (Jackson, Teton Village, Wilson, Kelly, Moran, Alta, Hoback, Rafter J Ranch, South Park), Teton County Idaho (Driggs, Victor, Tetonia), and Star Valley Wyoming (Afton, Alpine, Thayne, Etna, Bedford, Grover, Freedom, Star Valley Ranch). We also work in Dubois, Bondurant, Pinedale, Cora, Hoback Ranches, Island Park and Swan Valley.

Do you charge for travel to outlying towns?

Not for the assessment — that is free anywhere in the service area. On the project itself, distance affects the quote the same way access height does, and we show it as a line rather than burying it in the square-foot rate.

Will you work outside this area?

For the right project, yes. We have travelled further for full restorations. If the trip does not make sense for you we will say so rather than quote a number that includes two hours of windshield time each way.

Do you work on both sides of Teton Pass?

Yes. We are based in Teton Valley and work Jackson Hole daily. The pass is a scheduling factor in winter, not a service boundary.

How soon can you get to my property?

It depends on the season. Our application window for staining and blasting runs roughly late spring to early autumn, and that calendar fills early. Assessments happen year-round, and booking an assessment in winter is the reliable way to get on the schedule for spring.

Are you licensed and insured in both Wyoming and Idaho?

Yes. Log Care, Inc. has been incorporated and working in the region since 2008 and carries full liability and workers' compensation coverage on both sides of the state line.

Not sure if you are in the area? Ask.

If your log home is anywhere in western Wyoming or eastern Idaho, tell us where it is and we will tell you straight away whether we can get a crew to it.
